Can anybody please explain what is a definition of a "new factory crate engine". What is on it? I'm trying to decide which way to go - reman long block or factory new crate engine. Price difference is about $500.
This is 4.3 V6 for '98 Astro.
Thank you.

a factory crate motor uses brand new parts. reman engines have been used, but cleaned up, refurbished with new parts where needed.

Thank you,
do you know what usually comes with it – alternator, water pump, AC compressor etc?

typically on any motor, new or reman, you won't get alt, a/c, or power steer or the brackets. these are considered accessories which you add yourself. you can get a shortblock, which is the bottom end of motor, no heads or anything. just the block with all internals that go inside, or get longblock, which is shortblock with heads installed, or complete, which comes with heads, intake, distributor, sometimes carb.

here's a link to gm performance, showing various new crate motors, some shortblock like the first one, some fully ready to run, and some as longblock.

Thank you for the input.
One more question. What would you do - get the reman, or spend $500 more and buy new factory crate engine?
I have '98 Astro with spun conrod bearing. I'm intended to keep it for at least another 5 years. What would you do?
Thanks again.

check warranty on reman, get the parts list they used. reman's generally are good as new, long as it from good company using good parts.

The 4.3 are so durable you could find a low mileage junk yard engine and still easily get 5 yrs service. It's been done before with very good results.Just want to try to save you some money.

Create engines generally are over bored where factory ones are not.
