I am the owner of a performance and restyling shop located in Auburn, MA. A customer called today with a question that has us all stumped.
He's got a Chevy truck with what we believe is a crate engine installed. The engine has two oil dipsticks, one on each side. The bottom of the engine and the oil pan are both shaped to accomodate the twin dipsticks. There is only one oil pickup.
Our customer is a dealer and he doesn't have much history or documentation on the truck so we don't have much to go on.
Does anyone know what this engine is and what era it represents?
All help and information is appreciated.
Thanks,
Bill

Under the alternator on the block surface (not the head) is a number stamped into the casting Give this number to the parts counter at the local chevy garage and wait for your answer.

Once you get the casting numbers check moretec.
Unless it is a custom block it should be in there.
