ok Thanks for your reply...put everything back on...fired it up 1st read -25 degrees out...adjusted the distributor only was able to get it to -6 at times -2. Turned it as far as it will go. What could I be doing wrong?

It's hard to tell from the photo. With the timing marls lined up at TDC, the rotor should point to #1 cylinder. Did you have the distributor out? You might be 1 tooth off on the distributor installation.
