Default Easy way to check AC compressor? '03 Silverado

So I got a recharge kit for the AC since it wasn't blowing cold. The guage indictated full. Light comes on on the dash button, fuse and relay are good. I notice the compressor isn't turning on. Can I check to see if it's a wire break or should I assume a bad compressor?
2003 Silverado 1500 Z71 with the 5.3.
Thanks!

Check the wire going to the clutch on the compressor for voltage. If there is voltage then the clutch is bad and the compressor may or may not be good. If there is no voltage check the pressure switch on the accumulator. Also check for a broken wire.

I will do that, thanks. I have owned very few vehicles with AC so not familiar with them, but I understand basics. I will check for voltage with KO/EO for safety of course, dash switch on . At least I assume that will do it. I had no idea the clutch and compressor could be separated.

I
They can be separated but you have to be careful not to damage the seals. there is a special tool to do the job and it should be used.

Thanks! I will be sure to borrow the tool if I go that route. If it's fairly inexpensive I might just give it a shot. Of course checking the wire for power is free.
