Default Engine block casting #'s

I got my paws on a old V6 with the casting numbers 471594 all I can find on it is that it is 229 CI and might have been a V8 that had cylinders chopped off of it. I am also wondering what the heck all of these vacume lines are for. I got to go to the local junk yard and recover an alternator and water pump for this unit as well as new plug's and wires to get it to start. I might be in over my head but I will get this old clunker to run again
