My fuel sending unit has been out for about a couple years with no issues other than no gas gauge and a check engine light. Took it to a shop and they said I would have no issues other than what I mentioned already. A few days ago, my Tahoe stalled. It fires if I prime it with a little gas in the TB, but doesn't stay running. Before I start spending money chasing the problem, does anyone have suggestions?

 

Sounds like fuel pump. Can you post more information, as in model what else has been done?

 

With key on can you hear the fuel pump prime?

 

I would be somewhat concerned if the check engine light is on and I hope there is no other reason other than hoping it is due to a fuel gauge problem.

That kind of reasoning defeats the whole purpose of the system to warn you of a problem,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,if this has not happened already.

That is just as bad as putting tape over the check engine light because the illumination annoys me.

 

In June I took it to a shop, they gave it a tune-up and ran the codes. The only thing that came up was the fuel sending unit, and I was advised to flush the tranny and change it's filter before doing any towing. I can hear the pump run for a moment when I turn the key. It's a 99 Tahoe LT 5.7 Vortec. She has run excellently until this issue. I did just recently run it out of gas (wasn't paying attention to the mileage), I was thinking I may have clogged the filter too.
