Default Faulty Safety Braking

Help! A few months ago I was first at a train crossing waiting for the train to pass and the arms to raise. As soon as I was clear I proceeded, maybe a little too quick and my car jerked to a stopped. The red light in my dash lit up and the grinding sound of my brakes stopped my car abruptly with nothing in front of me. Tonight I was again at the same crossing only this time I waited until the arms were completely up and I accelerated slower but again the dash light glared and my brakes jerked me to a stop on the tracks. It would not let me proceed until I tapped the brake again. This has only happened when I’m the first car. It was very scary and I could have been rear ended. I’m not sure what to do. Does anyone have any experience with this?

I drive a 2019 Traverse High Country

I've heard of similar things happening when there's road construction. Your car probably has some kind of hazard avoidance system. You should consult your owner's manual. I'm sure it'll be described there.

I did find in the manual about the Forward Assist Braking. It says I can turn it off or turn off only the braking or both braking and dash light. I may consider this since I drive over railroad tracks daily. The possibility of this happening while driving over in normal traffic is terrifying! I may still report this to safecar.gov though. If there’s a technical problem it needs to addressed.
