Default Front end wander?

I have been looking at 95 Monte Carlo, nice shapeinside and out for the price they are going for around here. When I test drove-steering was tight and drove straight even when braking, no pulling to either side but.... when I hit a slight rise in the pavement or gave the gas peddle a good push, it radically jumped to one side. Don't want to buy something that requires'major' repair.Anyone have a suggestion as possible cause?

Could be worn ball joints or a loose joint in the steering column.

Thanks for the suggestion on the ball joint/loose steerimg joint. I just moved to this state with a new job and don't know anyone yet to give me reliable advice. Being female and not knowing anything about front wheel drive cars, many repair shops would see me as a golden $ sign.
