hey everyone just a quick question. ok so im getting shocked wheneve i exit one of my vehicles. i could go for a short drive or a long trip and no matter what i do when eve i get out of the car i always get shocked by the door. its not really a little zap, it hurts pritty bad lol.

Is it static electricty? If so, get a couple dryer sheets stuff in the cushions.

 

cheap shoes. try shoes with a rubber sole.

 

IF it is static electricity, you can diminish the "apparent" discharge to some degree, by taking hold of your Keys, and touching a metal part of the Vehicle with the tip of the Key, BEFORE you touch anything else that is metal.

That doesn't have anything to do with reducing the ampacity, it just moves the sharp sting out to the end of the Key, instead of on your skin.

Actually, shoes with a "conductive" sole would allow the electricity to be shunted/dissipated to ground. Rubber soles would further insulate one's body, and allow the fullest charge to be built up/felt.

 

I had this problem when I had a 87 Grand Marquis. Every time I d leave the car I d get a shock. The problem went away went I stopped wearing the shoes with the hard sole that I purchased at Sears. Not sure what the sole was made of but the problem, which was very uncomfortable, went aWAY.

Anyway, lots of people think that it's the vehicle or equipment that's shocking them. It's not, you/they are the source of the shock.

 

thanks for all the input i have been away from the site for a while. yeah its just a static shock. and it happends with all of my shoes, work boots, new, and old beat up shoes. its usually worse if i grab at the back of the door, but not when i grab the door by the window trim.

 

You are rubbing your butt on the seat as you exit creating static just like when you rub your socked feet on carpet. Rub your seats with dryer sheets or get a static spray. It doesn't take much and you won't need to reapply for a while.
