Default GM turnsignal switch

OK ,..I should know this, ..or where to find the answer, but thought I'd run by you folks!

I'm putting an after market steering column in a project of mine, it is equiped with a GM turnsignal switch...10 pin I think. Anyway my question is .."why does GM brake lite circuit go thru the turn signal swx?

It has to be something obvious...school me please..and any other handy info for wiring the column.

Thanks in advance!

..found part of the answer..

the brake bulb and the turnsignal share the same filament in the bulb. If they were both on at the same time..it would not be noticeable from behind..say turning-signals on-brakes on.
Brakelite voltage normally goes thru the turnsignal swx, but when a turn signal lever is used, a Cam inside the T/S swx opens,..interupting the brake power path.. and the turnsignal now supplies voltage from the" flasher unit' to "flash" the filament..thought it was something simple...

...now on to find a schematic..
