Hard to start, sometimes dies while braking and putting it in reverse
I have a 99 Silveerado (new body) 4.8L, Automatic. Occasionally it will take 2 or 3 cranks to get it started and sometimes I have to feather the throttle and it will fire. Most of the time it starts just fine.
Also in the past week the engine has died 3 times during an abrupt stop. Basically when you hit the brakes hard it dies (not every time though).
Last, thinking back over the past year or so my engine has died a few times when I put the tranny in reverse.
All of the above problems happen at random times.

Possible bad brake booster? I had idle problems with my blazer and it would come close to dying sitting at a stop. It came up with a mass air flow code. I replaced the booster and it's fixed. Hope this helps.
I am having the same exact problem with my ride. I'm thinking it needs some timing and tuning.
