HELP! 97 GMC Sierra not happy....
I was leaning that way at first, but I figured it went 165,000 miles without a hiccup before so I'm hoping that this Delphi will be problem free like the first pump.
Personally I'd go with the OEM but that is me, as for an opinion on the longer warranty their betting you are going to loose/forget the paperwork so its easy to promise a long warranty gambling on that...
the prices are still pretty ridiculous thou considering how little material/engineering goes into the friggin thing.
I'm basing my opinion one the OEM one because it the one GM uses and they aren't likely to go with a crappy one for fear of massive recalls.. guess what I am saying is the OEM has to have a certain level of quality control that has to be met for GM standard the after-market ones may not have that same standard..

Hard to say which is better between real good quality and REALLY high priced OEM or moderate quality and REASONABLY priced aftermarket! Dollars and since is the bottom line. If you can afford OEM and the Dealerships PLATINUM priced services you are probably better off. If your like me and your common folk or have better things to spend an extra couple hundred bucks on then the aftermarket is for you! Who knows you win some and you lose some!

One of the reasons discount parts houses do so well, is not only is the price lower than OEM, the quality is also generally better. This has been my experience of over thirty

Hey everyone, first time poster... long time lurker. I always use these forums to help with problems I'm having but this is the first one to stump me so I am seeking help from the guru's on the site.
Here is the truck: 97 GMC Sierra 1500. 5.7L, 4x4, 166,500 miles.
Here is the issue: I am having a very intermittent problem with my truck starting. Within the past 6 months I have replaced the fuel pump, oil pressure switch, and fuel relay. I also have a Clifford Matrix remote start/alarm that I have disconnected because I have heard those can cause problems with starting. The problem I'm having is sometimes the fuel pump will prime and the truck will start and run just fine.... and then 2 seconds later I'll try to start it and the fuel pump will never prime. I'll leave it over night, not moving or touching anything on the truck and it will start just fine. And then I'll shut it off, try to start it and it won't. Now, it won't start at all... it just turns over. I'm getting good spark and I know the engine runs fine, I sprayed a bunch of starter fluid into the intake and the truck will run for 10 seconds or so and sound completely normal.
So after speaking with a mechanic he said it could be a couple things: bad ground wires, pinched/frayed wires, or a bad ECM. I called Chevy today and they said they have to have the whole vehicle there in order to check the ECM. So I'll start with the simpler things first, cleaning ground wires and what not.
After writing this short novel (sorry, I just wanted to give you guys a full background so it's easier to diagnose) I just need some help with the troubleshooting parts... IE: where are the ground wires I should clean and what's the best cleaning solution? (baking soda and water? maybe use a wire wheel or hand file) Also, how can I check voltage to be sure the wires that power the fuel pump relay or getting what they are supposed to? Anything you guys would do first when checking the "smaller" things before I start replacing anymore parts and spending bookoo bucks.

1997 C2500 7.4L Long bed
Gave me a scare on a 3.5 hour road trip. ONE BIG CLICK! but it managed to start after a few attempts, so I just left it running until we got home.
Sat for a few months while the battery was on float. Didn't need the truck, so a new starter could wait.
Troubleshooting:
Starter - ONE BIG CLICK!
Battery passed 100A load test
Swapped with A/C relay - ONE BIG CLICK!
Tried jumping with a big marine battery - ONE BIG CLICK!
Tried adding a 50A boost charger to big marine battery + jumper cables on the starter battery - ONE BIG CLICK!
Checked cables. AZ truck, so very little corrosion. Nothing observed.
Replaced starter - ONE BIG CLICK! WTF????!!!!!!
Repeated all the above efforts with the new starter - ONE BIG CLICK!
Managed to get it cranked maybe two times out of 50 attempts.
Something that bugged me...
If I disconnected the battery cables, I MIGHT get it to crank occasionally. WTF?
Inspected main cables - looked good.
Fit of rage - replaced what appeared to be perfectly a good battery with the cheapest battery I could get at O'Reilly.
OMFG! It started 30 times in a row.
I don't have a high confidence explanation. That battery was old-ish, and it had been run to near flat a few times, so it as definitely not its best, but I've always been a big believer in a true 100A load test - it was in the green even for a 1000CCA battery every time I checked it - even for longer than the tester recommended.
I am so happy!
Going to leave the new battery on a 2A charge overnight just to make sure she's poked full, and I'm going to actually use the beast to haul some crap tomorrow.
