Default horrible grinding noise

I have a 1997 Chevy Silverado k1500 4wd it has been making this horrible grinding noise coming from the rear of the truck at first I thought it was the breaks rubbing but I replaced them and it still does it. It seems to go away when im driving and put it in neutral and coast. I also lifted each end up and put it in neutral and spun the wheels and it made the noise for both wheels. Is it possible both wheel bearings go out at the same time?? Or does it sound like it could be something else.

Thanks

the wheel bearing are still turning rolling down the road in neutral.
Is the noise worse under acceleration and quieter when coasting. if yes, I would have a listen to the crown and pinion.

yea that's why I didn't think it would be bearings but people keep telling me that's what it sounds like. The noise seems to be the same when accelerating and letting off and coasting. It does seem to go away when I get up to highway speeds but I don't know if its just because the trucks louder then to where I cant hear it

What I do is raise the truck safely on a hoist or jackstands and have someone run it up to 50mph. Slide underneath and try to isolate the noise with a mechanic stethoscope.
