Default Loose shifter and won't come out of gear(P)

Hello everyone,

I am new to the forum and drive a FBO/Cam 2000 Sierra ext cab. My issue at the moment is that the gear shifter is very loose and won't let me shift out of park at all. When I press the brake and attempt to shift the shifter is loose. I was thinking maybe the line was broken at some point because I have attempted to tighten the bolt down at the transmission that holds the lever. If I jack the truck up and manually pull the lever I can hear it shifting thru gears. Any help is very appreciated and thank you guys for your time

Probably too much play in the shifter mechanism.

It is very loose when trying to shift out of park but doesn't go into any other gear. Already tightened down the shifter gear bolt and nothing

You will either have to rebuild the mechanism or replace it. If the bushings are worn out you can't tighten it to get it to work.
