Default need help

I have a 1999 Chevy express van has been running fine then a couple days ago getting off interstate it started sputtering n shaking. When I got it n a parking lot it smelled like cats wherent functioning, it died when I let off the gas but would restart. Drove it slowly back home about 70 miles away. I then talked to man who's owned a few of the same vans, n he said to check the plugs n wires, then inspcet the rotary cap. I haven't changed plugs or wires on it since I bought it last year. So changed plugs n wires, it started but was still rough n kept looking on internet n found several articles says it coulb b cam sensor,so changed it to. I had marked rotary n distributor locations n loosened timing, changed the sensor but it back with the marks I had made. It would start but would only stay running if I held on the gas. I kept trying to start it n then it just quit trying to even crank. I suppose I had burned starter up cranking so much. I replaced the starter n still the same thing. Any help would b greatly appreciated thank u.
