Default Need help on driveshaft shortening/arrangement

I'm back after collecting some parts and saving some money.

So I pulled out the trans (nv3500) and swapping it out to the 4500. Everything is off now, the clutch and flywheel etc.

The thing I cant figure out is how to fit the driveshaft properly to the trans which has a harmonic balancer. (ill post pics tomorrow)
My dad says to remove the balancer but idk if its necessary.

The main problem is the lenght, idk if I should use a 2 piece or 1 piece shaft.

The big question and my concern is will the 2 piece driveshaft mount properly after it is sized to fit?

Any ideas would be great as I need transportation badly before going back to college.

Welcome back !

Can't speak to the necessity of removing the balancer, but...

Driveshaft bifurcations are required for those which are too long, or have excessive angles therefore stressing the U-Joints.

What's the distance between the Yokes (transmission/differential) ?
What's the horizontal offset, or angle between them (unloaded) ?
How much is the vertical travel of the differential ?

Idk what bifurcation means but I'm guessing your suggesting it happens without the short driveshaft with a U-looking mount?

As for the sizes you asked these are all most are dead on except trans to yolk.

So the lengths are

Total lenght engine to yolk 7ft 7in
Trans size 2ft 8in (2ft 9in if its end to end)
Original shaft 5ft 6 in not counting the connector to the trans (7 1/2 in)
The short piece shaft is 3ft 10in.
Trans to yolk 5ft 3in

Photobucket was ok.

From what I see...
Go ahead and connect the short shaft and Support Bearing.
Put the long shaft in, and slide it half way up on the spline.
Measure and reset the length to match the rear (differential) yoke.

If I see this right, that would shorten the long shaft about 3".
You'll need to re-balance the long shaft.

I'll have to "dry fit" the short shaft since it doesn't have the holes to mount.
Btw I don't understand what you mean by "spline". The balancer will stay on so it will only be the cross joints.

Do you know shops in the Houston area that do drive shafts?

Thanks for the help so far. They broke the damn thing and don't want to help even though im paying for the parts. This is a nightmare right now.

Haven't checked on a Shop for shaft work, let me look into that.
