no start no crank
So i just bought a 1993 Chevy Suburban everything was grate next thing I know starter goes out so i get a new one everything is fine one day driving down the road and smoke starts rolling out from under the hood i quickly pop the hood jump out to find my battery cable's are burning or melting i get it to stop get it towed home buy new battery cable and go to start it and nothing just dash lights come on no sound or anything go and buy another starter try it nothing same deal so I am no pro with this stuff so any help would be great thanks.
Cables get hot and melt when there is a short in the system. Worn out cables which are frayed at the ends also cause a lot of heat. Look at your cables and make sure there is no bare wire touching anything. Look at them even at the starter and where the negative cable is connected to the frame. You could have also blown some fuses, so check them all.
Have you checked the starter relay and inline fuze link? If you can get the starter to work by jumping it at the starter then you need to troubleshoot and find the defective parts of the starting electrical circuit.
so when i jumped the starter it crank the engine it started up good running nicely but when i do it in ignition its like it not getting fire when i turn the key i look all over for a bad wire nothing at all that i can see of
okay so i am guessing i have a bad wire some were so i hooked a wire from the s post on starter run it up to the battery and to a switch and it starts up fine for the time being until i can fix it thanks for the info!
