Default Noise...

Hi, I have a 02 Tahoe and it just recently started making an odd noise. We haven't been able to figure out what it might be...

I notice is mostly in the mornings when its cold, it sounds like a ticking noise.. not the same as the ticking noise that you hear when your car is cold and before it warms up.

I almost think it maybe some type of squeaky belt issue? It stops after some time. I was looking for a possible way to better narrow down the issue or see if anyone might have some suggestions as to what it might be.

Thanks

Hi Eshields1014,

Welcome to the Chevy forums.

Many of the V8 vortecs have a separate drive belt on the A/C compressor. It's a 10$ item, and it runs only from the crank pulley to the A/C compressor. It's an easy belt change, the separate tensioner works with a 3/8 ratchet handle.

See how it looks, many times it gets forgotten.

Well here is what happened since I posted this and you can tell me what you think...but I dont think i am worried about it anymore

The next days or a few days later the coolant low light came on, so we put some more in and the noise the car was making has seemed to stop so my guess was the car was making that noise because it was trying to use more coolant than was available or something like that

but since we have added more havn't heard the noise since! I think we are good to go

glad you found it, be sure to keep and eye on the coolant level should it be a sigh of a possible bigger problem...
