Default Non fitting speedometer cable

This is a re-post from 7/31/06.

Can anyone help me. I have a 87 Chevy truck. It has an auto trans. When the cable is installed in the trans it is still loose, you can wiggle it a little. If you put a tie strap on it and put tension on it , it works. It is a TH350. Anyone know why it would be loose like that, and what can be done about it? Thanks, Richard.

The cable has the notch that a plate slides in that is bolted to the side of the trans. So there is no adjustment that I know of. Anyone know why it would be loose like that? If the trans is not the one that came with the truck, maybe that would do it. Please help. Thanks.
