Default P0301 code

I was not getting any hits down in "Cavalier" so Ithought I would try it up here. Just joined the forum and I have a question right off. 2000 Cavalier 2.2 has a problem. Car started running rough. Threw on the OBD and got the P0301 "cylinder No. 1 misfire". The plugs are new pulled and cleaned anyway and they did not look bad. I replaced the plug wires. I pulled the coils and cleaned everything real well. Put it all back together and guess what. Still runs the same. Anybody got any ideas?

Take the number one out and have some one bumpit while you hold the plug on or very close to the block, If it dosen't have a blue spark it's not hot enough.
I don't know what to tell you other than that.

take #1 coil and switch it with say # 3 or #4 cyclinder coil . then test drive for a day or so , and then see if your missfire switched to what cyclinder you had put the #1 coil in . if so replace coil

It doesn't have a distributor, nor rotor, nor does it have points. It has coils.

Hey NCH - The coils are in 2 cylinder sections. One coil for 1 and 4 and one coil for 2 and 3. They appear to be similar but are numbered on the ouside. Can I switch these coils to see if the misfire moves to a different cylinder?

Yea, I beleive you can. I think the reason they put numbers on them from the factory is just for convience cause most of the time when you have to replace them they don't come with the numbers on them.
