Default sheet metal gauge

Here's hoping someone has the answer... I have a 1995 Chevy C1500... I just finished replacing the lower door skin on it and tomorrow I will weld in the seam... I used a crimper tool to crimp the lip on the patch panel from Raybuck.. it is 20 gauge steel... the project is going well but tomorrow I need a place to start and will do a practice weld on some of the metal I removed.... but I hope someone knows what gauge metal was used in the original door so I can at least make an educatied guess at my welder setting *****.... The original door metal feels thick... 18 gauge??? Any suggestions appreciated.... thanks...
