Default spark plug base too wide

spark plug base too wide. I bought AC R45 plugs for my 307 CI in my 33 hot rod. The diameter of the plug base is 0.75 inches and the hole in the head infront of the seating area is 0.72. what is going on? I can grind them down but would rather get the right plugs. Any one have these issues. when looking at specs on different plugs, they do not give this dimention. without grinding the base, only one revolution of the plug bottoms out.

Take the old set down and have them replaced exactly.
