Synthetic VS Conventional
i know its expensive took a buddy of mine to buy a case at the local dealer, the dealer is a damn lawer. he has a 02 ws6 trans am witha built 402. 550hp at the wheels. he swears by the stuff. and still changes the oil every 3000
damn,i can't afford to do it every 3000,but then again its just for a diesel, getting ready to purchase gear oil's for my newer chevy...i like what im getting so far...as soon as i change my oil run around the block check it and it's black black...first time i did that as a new diesel owner i freaked out....ohhh ok it's normal
went to get my new truck had it all picked out...gasser ..while driving to get my new truck, drove past a lot that had one that was ordered and not picked up....i knew i could not afford the d-max package but after messing around for 5 hours in there i drove home in it....now the fun part...my credit isn't perfect and so my huge payment eack month reminds me i better love that truck for a long time...but a killer truck ...i wanted a dually they are bad a** in my opinion...along with a bad a** sticker price...
Quick answer: Yes you can use the oils you currently have now safely.
Long answer: I'm doing my own field test RIGHT NOW to help answer a lot of FAQs about synthetic. I installed AMSOIL 3K miles ago, and the only final conclusion I've come to at this point is their oil filters SUCK, and I'll never buy another one.

Microns have got nothing to do with it.
The AMSOIL filter has no grip edges at all, it's slick and round.
When you think it's on tight, it backs off, and starts spewing oil.
That's how amsoil gets you for another three quarts on your first case.(Of course, for the next oil change, ya gotta buy another case...)
Next time I'm going to install a K&N oil filter. Maybe I'll tell you about the "Microns" in that one.
As far as the test, it's just one gas engine, a 6.0L in a Silverado 2500HD-4X4-CCLB.
It's been 3000 miles, I thought I'd try for 24000 miles, but I'm monitoring it as the "private field test" continues, if the oil pressure drops, or the oil reaches a condition which in my
opinion is not safe, I'll take it from there.
