Hi azdesertdweller,
Welcome to the Chevy Forums.
What's your vehicle type and year? What kind of mileage does it have?
While you're taking off the pan, wouldn't it maybe be a good idea to consider changing the tranny filter, too?

umm i should have mentioned.....
i thought it would pop-up when i logged in,but, '96 chevy 2500 5.0...280,000 miles....new crank bearings,injectors,fuel system,high perf air intake..flowmaster 40 series w/3 in strait pipe...ya its beefy sounding...but the wife drives it,with a big grin on her face....
i disconnected the carrier bearing and the tranny lifted just fine...the pan bolts weren't even visible with a quarter million miles of grime on them, swapped the filter and gasket,i didn't have time ,but it looks like there's a module on the side of it that maybe leaking also....the gasket i removed was very brittle, even though it looked( uncorrupted?) good...$12 autozone...for both filter and gasket....5 quarts tranny fluid, extra........
thanks guys...when i get the next headscratcher i'll be sure to log in....

Well, luckily for you, your 2500 costs less than mine to fix.
The filter for my 04 is @45$, and if you want an OEM(heavy fiber) gasket, that's 65$ at the stealership. Fortunately, the rather tough original gasket in this case is re-usable.
