Default Transmission Leak

Hello All. I'm new to the group.
My '93 Chevy G20 Van with a 5.0 and automatic transmission and 136xx has developed a transmission leak. This vehichle is rarely used, and sits parked nose down on a very slight decline. It hasn't been started for a few weeks, but I noticed last night that a very recent puddle of fluid is being deposited on the driveway. A check revealed that the nose at the rear of the tranny is wet, which make me think seal. The weird part is that the drip is coming from the tranny's universal joint yoke at the driveshaft. I saw it drip and wondered why it would wick itself, uphill, to the universal. Although the nose is obviously wet, it is not dripping there. The only drip is at the universal joint. How/why would this thing start to leak after sitting idle for so long? Is the seal the only concern here? Thanks.

there is a plug in the back of the slip yoke; if its missing trans fluid will move along the yolk splines and out to the u-joint.

Thanks Tech2. I find it odd though, that this truck has been sitting for weeks, unstarted/unmoved, and suddenly developed a nasty leak just yesterday. Is the plug something that's available, or is it a yoke with plug installed purchase? Thanks.

you would need a new yolk assembly if the plug is missing.

I don't know if thats it...just my guess from your description. Its an easy check if you know what to look for. post a pic.

I have heard that if you clean the slip yoke real good, you can seal the hole with a good automotive silicone seal. I bought an old truck many years ago that had this done to it.
