Default Trouble with 700R in 78 Chevy Half Ton

I have a 1978 Chevy Short Bed that I am making a sort of street truck out of. I wanted to go with a 700R tranny. When putting in the tranny the cross member ( tranny mount braket deal) does not line up. I is hitting the tranny fluid pan. I was just wondering if this is normal or have I made some mistake......

Did you remove the cross member?

Did the truck have an auto in it to begin with?

Yeah I did take out the cross member........I got the tranny all installed tonight actually. I had to move the cross member back about 2 inches and make new wholes to bolt it. Not 100% sure if I needed to do that or not, but it is in there tight and seems to drive fine.....

Thanks for the help though........
