Default Unusual fuel filter?

Hi all, my 350 has a Racor Fuel Filter/Water separator. Like this one - eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

Was looking it up and Racors are mostly for diesel and marine motors? I've never seen a Racor with my limited experience, just wondering if these are widely used or why mine would have one?

How does that happen? Water in gas.. Suppose its better off to just keep the same filter setup, right?

Some gas stations with older tanks get a lot of moisture in their tanks and therefore pump it into your tank when you buy gas. It has happened to me. Once it was so bad in my. Oat that itn run. would not eve

If you can get to the fuel filter, ideally remove it, by unscrewing the canister from the housing. Then, take it somewhere to warm up and empty it out. A muddy sludge or water contamination in a diesel (or other fuel) tank is not that unusual - it's the reason cars are fitted with fuel filters and on some cars there are sensors to indicate that accumulated water needs to be decanted from the fuel filter housing.

Hmm okay. So I'm guessing this Racor R12s equipment is adequate enough to be standalone, gas-crap prevention? I hope so 'cos I don't see any other fuel filter.. I'm thinking of sticking in a fuel filter right after the fuel pump anyway.

It's mounted to the firewall so I can easily unscrew it. It's in line with a carburetted engine and electric fuel pump. Funny setup, but none of my doing.

edit: just had a look, and it says "fuel filter/separator". looks pretty grimey too (haven't had a chance to take it off) so I'll get another element and see if that gets my car started.
