Default Wheel bearing help plz

Hey all,

I have a 2006 Saturn Vue (Equinox's counterpart). The front right wheel bearing start making a bad humming/growling sound. So i changed it last April with a duralast hub assembly from autozone. Now, it seems to be doing the same thing AGAIN. Same wheel. I called autozone and the warranty has expired. What should I do?

I will check the torque on the axle nut again. I dont know if that would cause it to fail or not. I am also thinking about going with a timken or precision hub assembly w/ a 3 year warranty. At least it would be covered if this happens again.

I hear vue's and equinox's have this problem.

Please help!

Thanks,

Gideon

Although familar with old stuff, over torquing a bearing will cause premature failure for sure. I take it you greased the new bearing, and the bearing race was matched to the bearing? In other words the new bearing had the new race installed. Either way new to new, and not used to new. Are you using a wheel bearing grease? I take grease in the palm of my had, and virtually "dig" the bearing into it working the grease thoroughly into the bearing.

It;s actually a wheel hub assembly. All sealed, no grease zerks.

I just ordered a Federal Mogul assembly from Oreilly w/ a three year warranty. I almost went with a Timken from Autozone, but they ordered the wrong part twice last time. Since it looks like every part is made in China now, I'll give oreilly a chance.

I should know what I have in three years right? :-/
