Where is this number located?
I just 1998 Chevy Express with a salvage title. I am in the process getting the title transfered into my name. I need to find the engine, tranny number and federal inspection number. Does anyone know where these numbers should be located.

Found it. The engine ID number was on the drivers side, rear towards the top of the block. The Tranny ID number was on the bellhousing on the drivers side towards the top. Both numbers near each other so it was easy to see that they matched.
