Hi all, first post

Where is the door chime located in the 2000 Venture? I think it's really obnoxiously loud...[8D] I'd like to put electrical tape over it to mute it somewhat like I did with our boat... I know it's on the right half of the dash...

Well unfortunately I believe the chimes are located in the radio itself. Produced by the radio possibly not sure exactly how that works, but I do know that it is another common complaint about the Venture. I heard somehwere that Chevy will fix it, but it will cost you $200.

 

There are 2 options regarding the chimes in a 200 venture. Loud, or normal. This option must be set using the Tech2 at the dealer. Shouldn't be anywhere near the $200 mark. Should only take about 5 mins to set the option

 

Like I said it is just what I heard that they charge $200 to fix it.

 

Well I recently upgraded the stereo to the factory CD version and whilst it was out I still had the chimes

 

someone has installed an aftermarket chime module in it somewhere then. It probably had an after deck in it at one time and they need to add a module to reproduce the chimes with the factory radio removed. When the aftermarket deck was removed, they must have left the chime module behind. Follow the sound and you will find the module

 

Impossible, we've owned it since new... should mention this is a Canadian vehicle [8D]

Anyway, I located the speaker! Under the right side of the dash just above the kick panel there is a small brownish-grey box withbar codes on it (the ECM?) that you can pop open and the chimes speaker is inside. I just unplugged it from the circuit board. Cost: $0.00. Eventually after I've had a break from the thing I'll reinstall it with some electrical tape over it or something to mute it somewhat.

Thats weird. Did you have the new radio put in or did you put it in yourself?

 

I removed the factory AM/FM myself and put in a 2001 Venture CD from the parts yard by myself. Then the dealer unlocked it. Whilst the radio was out I still had the chimes. I'll post some pics.
