Wits end on P1345 Code on '02 5.7l
Hi all,
This is my first post on this vehicle, so I'll try to get pertinent info so I'm not babbling on- Chronic P1345 code and P0351. Bought this van NOT RUNNING, performed the repairs and runs great now. (BTW, engine runs PERFECTLY, no misfires, plenty of power, good compression, no issues starting at all), 212K miles on her. This is my work van and what I support my kids and wife with. I'm in California where you have to smog vehicles (B@stard$!!), and wont pass because of the DTC, otherwise all emission levels are great. I used a good quality scanner and viewed Live data. Timing advanced 16.5-17 degrees at idle. BTW, I have a small shop and have been working on cars my whole life, so I'm not a hack.
1) Replaced injector spider, installed new distributor (OEM had typical cracked case), coil and ignition module, crank sensor, new MAF sensor, new Iridium plugs and premium 8 mm plug wires.
2) Double, triple and Quadruple checked engine timing , used "8" marking on distributor for "1" cylinder and the timing mark on harmonic balancer is PERFECTLY lined up to timing tab on engine.
3) Tried advancing AND retarding distributor timing 1 tooth, engine would NOT run.
4) Modified distributor hold down bracket so distributor can be rotated (Distributors on these years are designed to be stationary and NOT turned) and tried adjusting to get as close to 0 degrees +- 2 at 1000+ RPM. Engine ran like garbage.
5) Pulled up every YouTube video I could find regarding P1345 code and tried everything suggested.
6) Took vehicle to reputable mechanic shop for a "Crank Relearn". Van ran horrible, stalled out all the time and was gutless with no power and backfired occasionally. Lost $250 for nothing. Disconnected battery for an hour to reset computer, got it running good again.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Does anyone have an address in another state I can register my van in???!!!
Any advice would be appreciated.-Jerry
