HHR burning up alternator
I have had burned up 3 alternators they work for a little while then burns out the voltage regulator. It's. working fine then it spikes over 15v then stop working. Anyone have a clue ? It's a 2006 HHR 2.4 L
checked battery replaced the PCM checked wiring put new one in it lasted about 10 days . I'm watching the voltage it's staying around 13.8v to 14.6v then I nodous it jump to 15.3v it's burning out voltage regulator ??
'checked battery' isn't saying much. Voltage check ? Individual cell volt test/accumulative across total # of cells, Carbon pile load test?
Ultimately, how -old- is the battery, and, is it the proper fitment (physical size, capacity rating)?
My son cooked off three original install alternators (genuine NipponDenso) in an MX-5 Mazda (Miata) while he was adhering to inter-webz 'experts' insisting that just because lawn & garden yard tractor batteries could be finagled to install, and actually start the car, that everything was hunky-dory.
Playing games with batteries can be recipe for expensive problem all on their own.
