Default HHR Running Boards Install

Has anyone installed the factory running boards on their HHR? I was wondering what was involved? Do you have to remove the existing rocker panel or do they install right up to the rocker panel? I know they come painted already to match you body color. Please fill me in if you have installed them. Thanks.

Hey Good Buddy, I'm in the process to install on my HHR.... I've got one side installed 1st, I suggest you lift one side on jack stands and remove front/rear wheels for ease of clearance. 2nd, remove front splash guards, if installed. 3rd, you do have to remove the existing Rocker panels and instructions DO NOT say how.... they are differcult to get off unless you have with some special tool. Since they are not needed, I somewhat ripped them off. after that part, things will start to fall in place. Not every slot will line-up completely, so be prepared to force/pry lineup. You'll need metric sockets/socket wrench, a T30 Torx bit and small hammer. It took me longer than I'd like to admit, but as I said, removing the rocker panels are the pits. The parts are labeled OK.
... So, go for it and GOOD LUCK....let me know if I was of any help...!!! What color HHR do you have...??? mine is RED... thks

[color=#660000]I'm in the process myself getting GM to install running boards at their costs on my HHR,, a service manager let it slip out that they have been installing running boards on many of the 2006 HHR because of paint chipping,, Good Luck to you,, why not give it a try?

That's awesome,, She's doing well with it,,
GM paid forand installed the running boards,, they did it as a warranty job,
I had to call around, the dealership I got my HHR from never said a peep about it,,
it's a secret warranty, lol,
if you have paint chipping they will do it,, now this is in Canada, so I'm not sure if the US will do it,,
