Default 01 Impala "Service Vehicle Soon"

My son's Impala has this message on the dash. Can anyone tell me what this means? I don't have an owner's manual for it.

without hooking it up to scan the code no one will be able to really tell you, unless you know the code and someone has a book

Why would there be a code? There is a seperate "Check Engine Light" on it too. I'm thinking this is just a reminder of something but maybe not.

the service engine soon light can be set off by the gas cap not being sealed properly or not tight enough it happened to me twice the owners manual says the light is for emissions related problems hope that helps?

Did it have a dinging sound as well ?
My 99 mailbu just did this today for the first time ever. It's related to the Daytime Running Lights and/or Automatic Light Control at least for the mailbu.

Thanks to everyone who responded. My son tells me the light has gone out. Might hook the scanner to it just for kicks.
