2000 ECT trouble
Hello Everyone,
I am new to this forum and out of my league as an experienced mech.
I'm a contractor - I know houses, not cars/trucks as well but am experienced with tools and not afraid to try. My son's 2000 impala has been having big time troubles starting. We had a pro mechanic friend look at in first and he said from the pressure he saw - change the fuel pump. Did it and still no good.
Yesterday another guy said the ECT ( I understand it to be the engine coolant temp? )
Does this seem to be a possibility against the car not starting at all?

Both the MAF sensor and canister purge solenoid are powered by the ENG DEVICES fuse in the underhood fuse block #2. That fuse may be blown. The thing is, the engine should start without MAF sensor input (e.g., try disconnecting the MAF sensor and then crank). It'd be helpful to know what exactly happens when, beyond the phrase "having big time troubles starting." Turn the key on, describe what indicators are doing what on the I/P cluster. Does the fuel pump prime (makes a whirring noise for a couple seconds) as soon as the key is turned on? Turn the key to start, describe what exactly happens. Release the key, describe what indicators are doing what on the I/P cluster.
Thanks for the responses. I did get the car started today and it is running.
I will check the fuse tomorrow in the light. I found that a recently changed fuel pump had a bad GROUND connection making the pump work intermittently.
Cut the wires and put wire nuts instead of crimp slices and it seemed to work.
