2001, Stability Control Light On
Hello all.
A friend of mine just purchased a 2001 LS Impala in pretty great shape, only 92,000 miles on it.
We just ran into one problem though, it seems as though the Service Stability Control light pops on now and then. The person we bought it off of said that it's because there are after-market wheels on the car, and that the stock wheels had some sort of sensors in them that interfaced with the stability system.
So first of all, I want to know if this is true or not. And second of all, if it's true, how do we bypass / override / turn off that feature so the light will remain off. Thank you!

the vehicle never had tire pressure monitors from factory. the abs and traction control system uses wheel speed sensor data to perform the abs and traction control functions.
make sure the tires are all the same brand, size, treadwear and inflation pressure as all these factors effect rolling circumference which influence the WSS data.
you must fix the problem to turn off the light. Any ABS lights?
You will need a full function scan tool to check chassis codes; where abs dtc are stored. The wss and wiring harnesses are common faults.
