2002 Impala Problems
Question...do I have any recourse....
March 20, 2007 I took my car into the dealer to find out about an oil leak, was having dime size spot of oil on my garage floor; they told me they need to replace the gasket at the intake manifold.....fine, $1400 and I had my car back (this is in addition to the $1700 I spent in February on brakes, rotors, etc)
Yesterday, April 24, 2007; daughter was driving car and it made a noise and stopped running. Had it towed to the dealer today; they are telling me the engine bearings spun out or a rod froze.....$4700 for a new engine (rebuilt)......or 3250 for a used engine. I had no engine problems before they worked on this car....do I have any recourse? If they'd at least throw in the labor I'd pay for the parts....I just think this is ridiculous.....
Tell me what you think....I'm in shock.....

umm probably not, the gasket they replaced would have nothing to do with the bearings going, what is your milage..... and $1700 for brakes ouch..not to be a dick or anything but hte car is barely worth what you already spent on it, nevermind another 3-4 grand for an engine...when my grand am engine went I went to a salvage yard and spent 2 grand on engine and 1200 to re and re it....most of these places will give you a 1 year guarantee...me I would dump the car for what I could and get something new....your gonna spend all this money and never get it back out of the car.
cut your losses
basically the dealer will say one had nothing to do withthe other, and make it worse your daughter was driving not you so you really dont know what happened, not saying she was doing anyhting bad. but look at it from their end

advertise it for parts, minus an engine or salvage yard, even try a salavage yard for a used engine, proly get it for half have them re and re it and sell it for what you can, Its weird Impala are very reliable cars, what engine is in it....3.4?? or 3.8?? if its 3.4 should be lots of those around, Grand Am, MAlibu, Grand Prix older ones used these....
GM is doing a loyality thing now in BC, Canada anyhow can get a G note for it as is from a dealer, and u dont even have to trade it if u dont wanna, basically any midsize car GM or otherwise...Vans to.

If your intake manifold gasketswere leaking you could have had coolant leaking into your engine at the same time and that could have easily degraded the bearings or any number of other things in the engine.
