Default 2002 Starting Troubles

I have an 02 impala and sometimes when I try to start it (mostly when warm) I get nothing when I turn the key. I can try to start it several times and nothing happens, no click or anything. 20 min. later it will fire up like nothing happened. No security light or anything when it is not starting. Any ideas?

I have personally experienced this and it was a bad cell in the battery. Test the battery.

New battery. If I turn the lights on and try to start it when it is acting up there is no change in brightness. I do not think it is battery.

Your problem is not with the battery. On the ignition switch there is a small module attached. This is your problem. Very discouraging because you dont know when the car will not start. You should have on your dash id center a key showing passlock. The new ignition lock switch which include the module will cost you aprx 400$ installed. The more you wait to replace this part the more it will act up and one day you wont be able to start it even if you wait 10 minutes before you try again.
