The only 3.4L v6 I had was a DOHC 1992 lumina. *GULP* Never had the chance to bleed her.

Anyways - I googled up the impala for you.

It sounds like there are 2 spots, and the one near the water pump is the one that should be done first (and other people have missed).

generally - you open both screws up, fill system, when coolant runs out of the lower one, you tighten that up. then continue to fill until it runs out of the top one, then close that up. That should get you very close.
