2005 impala How to remove power steering rack and pinion
...have someone else do it. is the easiest way
jack up the car and secure on jackstands
remove the front tires
loosen the tie rod jam nuts
remove the outer tie rod nuts
separate the tie rod ends from the knuckle
secure the steering wheel with the seat belt
separate the I shaft from the rack
support the rear section of the subframe
remove the rear subframe bolts and lower the rear subframe 3"
remove the rack bolts
remove the power steering lines...spill fluid everywhere
remove the rack
install new rack and re-assemble
fill the system with fluid
with the car off; turn the wheels from stop to stop 10x and check the fluid level...repeat
start the engine and turn the wheels from stop to stop 10x
leak check
lower car.
send for wheel alignment
