Talking '63 Biscayne back up light switch

I recently purchased a beautiful 4 door '63 Biscayne that is the new love of my life. She is wonderful. The P.O. has wired the reverse lights to a toggle switch under the dash. I have ordered a new back up switch but can't figure out how or where it mounts and how it is activated. The wiring is a simple matter but this has me befuddled. Anyone give me some advice? I realize this is probably a stupid question but I really don't mind being that guy. I just enjoy the ride. Thanks.

I'm not familiar with it but I would imagine it is some kind of momentary contact switch that would make contact with the shifter linkage possibly. Do you have the part and can you post a picture of it?

I don't have the part yet but if the one that I found in the Classic Industries catalog is the same I believe you are probably right. There is a place under the dash on the column where it appears one could be activated by the shifter. I will wait and see what the new switch looks like. I will post a pic for all to examine. I am hoping one of the old Impala guys might have some experience with it. We will see. Thanks for the reply.

No sir, it is a 3 on the tree. I got the switch today and I am convinced that it goes on the bottom side of the column. It looks as if it will fit rather nicely and it is activated by a metal tab on the column that keys into a slot on the switch. I think I will try to hook it up this weekend and give it a go.
