When I accelerate after stopping, the car (2008 Impala) will not move for a couple seconds. If I accelerate enough, the car will then lunge forward and go. Yesterday, I heard a banging noise when I started up after a stop. Not sure this is related.
Does this sound like a brake sticking or the transmission. It has done this twice in a 3-day span.
I have been manually shifting the auto. transmission and tapping the brakes when I back up.
What do you think this could be?

When was the last time you changed the transmission filter?

What is your vehicle's mileage?

 

I don't think the transmission filter has ever been changed.
I have around 56000 miles on it now.

 

While it wouldn't hurt to change the transmission filter now,

I doubt it's the problem, considering the mileage. If you had two

or three times the mileage, perhaps.

 

OK, this is what I know so far.
I have been manually shifting once in a while, thinking that it may be something in the transmission.
I then remembered that the day before it acted up (the worst) we had driven through heavy rain. The brakes have always been touchy, and now I'm wondering if it was wet brakes grabbing. I have had no problems for about a week now. I have tapped brakes backing up when I think of it. I have been told that this will "adjust" brakes. Is there any truth to that?
