Launch CReader VI

cripes, everything is so cheap in the states.
the Walmart one can only read and clear codes...you need to view live data

the c reader can:
view and clear codes and pending codes
view live data stream
graph live data
view mode 6 data
view I\M monitors
view freeze frame data
some limited bi-directional control
update via internet
full colour monitor

code reader will only read codes and clear codes. a scan tool can do that plus show live data...which is useful for diagnosis.

A frind of mine was telling me that he picked up a wifi or bluetooth (can't remember which) ODBII unit that allows him to run an app on his smart phone. He said the part that plugged into the car was pretty cheap and he got the app for the phone for next to nothing. I haven't tested this, but wanted to let you know of another option.

All Scanners & Readers

here's a link to a great site. I have bought 2x from this site and am very satisfied with their service and delivery.

autoenginuity is the best laptop based scan tool product on the market. You don't have to buy the entire system; just for your make of car.

tech2, thanks for the info and link.

Frank3, thanks, just the other day I read about the smart phone app. That is too cool.

Y'all have been very helpful.

one great feature of the autoenginuity software is that it converts mode 6 data to readable, usable information.

for example, for every monitor that runs, it will show the numerical result of the test and the specs. It will red light ones that fail and set dtc. It will also yellow light ones that pass but are near fail parameters. This is very helpful when diagnosing no dtc, drivability problems.
