Default 95 beretta "SES" code retrieval

I have a 95 beretta 2.2 motor, and the SES light keeps coming on.It is a obd-1 and when I jump the 2 wires at the diagnostic port, nothing happens. The SES light does not flash the code.Anybody ever run into this problem?

Thanks,Cody

You are turning the key to "on" right? You can just go to an auto parts store and get it read for free.
