Default Impala Remote range very short, why?

I have an '06 impala LT and when i try to use my remote on my car it really doesnt work at a distance longer than 10ft from my car. Can anyone explain to me why the distance is so short, and is there a fix for it?

Thanks

There was a technical service bulletin about this. I had my 2006 impala fixed under warranty. It did the same thing. Some of the impalas had the non auto start remote system installed in the car which gave it short distance. the remote start worked but only about 15 feet from the car. They changed the remote receiver, the antenna and gave me 2 new remote transmitters. I think the total cost was about $600 if i would have had to pay for it. It then worked from about 200 -250 ft away.

I bought my car used w/o warranty. Does this mean that if i want this problem correct i will have to pay for it?? Or of course a remote car starter for a fraction of that price.
