Instrument panel issue
My elderly widow neighbor has a 3005 Impala that the temp gauge always shows all the way hot and now the spedo reads at least 35. I swapped in an 03 cluster and the gauges work fine but the DIC doesn't light at all. No gear selection or odometer. Could this simply be incompatibility between years, or should I consider trying to get it repaired? Appearance wise they look identical. The car only has 64085 miles on it. Could the original simply need a pair of stepper motors? I'm game to changing them.

You will need to replace it or have it repaired. Try finding one on eBay.com or have UpFix.com fix it
