Default my car cuts out an looses all power

Hi everyone this is my first time posting here. Ok my car is a 2001 chevrolt impala with 77000 miles on it one week ago i was leaving work arond one and my car died. i didnt think anything of it until i tried to leave for 29 palms then it cut out 5 or six times before i even got a ile away so i drove it home. next day i went to drive it the same thing happened but the check engine light came on i had it read the code was for a crank position sensor so i drove it and it died again so i brought home. on monday i took it to my cousins shop to have checked out he does scope and scan on it and the code came up and he found it was the ignition module and coils so we order one he puts on it was bad next day he orders a second one and another bad one. at this point he wants to order from dealer and my total bill would be around 900 dollars so i say no to him fixing it and bring it home i found ingnition mdodule at a wrecking yard with coils for one hundred this morning so i go pick it up and drop it in everything runs fine im as happy as a clam. then i go to my sisters work for a couple of hours go back out t my car and drive home around 10 pm about 1/4 of a mile down the road my car stalls. i get it running again and get about 1 mile and it stalls then i go about 1/10 of a mile does again and keeps happening. this time there was no code that came up so far. i kind of have a suspicion that the temp mighht be involved in this some how since both times it has happened it was in the 40's outside. a little history on the car. right before i bought the previous owner replace the LIM gasket. a month and a half after i bought it the tranny went out. then in december the cat goes out now this is happening and i have only owned the car since august. so any help will be greatly appreciated. i think after i fix it completely i am gonna sell it.

Erik

Can you list the code numbers that were pulled? Was the crank sensor replaced?

I can't tell for sure, without testing, but, if your loosing the rpm signal, intermittently. It will act just like your talking about.

If it refuses to restart quickly, can you check for spark and injector pulse?

the code was a 0336 i believe and not the crank sensor was not replaced because they said it was fine. they said that the problem was the ignition module not sending the crank sensor adequet power. i forgot to mention before it dies the rpms jump all over from 0 to 3k. and restarting it is hard.

The biggest problem with buying used parts, are that you may be buying someone else's faulty parts without knowing it. If a car gets towed in, the wreckers usually do not test the parts, they just strip the car. I have a feeling that either you bought a bad ign module, or like dewey said, you may need to replace the crank sensor.

Are you getting a spark at the plug wires? fuel pressure? injector pulse?......first things to check to get going in the right direction

The pO336 applies to the 24X crank sensor. My parts book shows 2 separate crank sensors for the 3400.

The 3800 shows one crank sensor, but, it is a dual sensor.

Which engine do you have?
