Impala While undergoing many facelifts in its history, the Impala has proved itself to both civilians and police forces as one of the most capable 4-door cars GM has ever offered. Currently moving towards its 10th generation the Impala is one of the longest lasting and popular models.

Default My New Project.

Hello Everyone, I just joined this forum. A little background on me. I just graduated from school, the UConn School of Pharmacy. I have tons of loans and I am preparing for a wedding.

My Aunt recently passed away, I inherited her 1969 Impala. I love the car, it rides like a boat and would look mean all fixed up. The thing is that it needs work. It was garaged for 30 years in NY. It was used to drive to church and groceries. That being said, it has 39,000 original miles on it. Basically being broken into in my book. I have no idea what the engine size is, I have looked everywhere for the "stamped" code and have no idea where it is. It has rust pretty mush on all four corners. The trunk needs to be fully replaced, rust has gotten to it pretty bad. On the LH passenger side the floor is pretty much non-existent (due to rust). The engine runs on the first turn of the key, but the carbs need to be adjusted right. There is no exhaust. I say this because it has a whole right from the headers and the exhaust leaks into the cab. The interior is so-so, has some rips nothing crazy. The chrome on the front bumper really needs to be redone.

So basically thats the car. I would LOVE to fix her up and keep it as a memory of my aunt. I have no idea where to start. You can consider me an amateur in regards to rebuilding cars. I would love for this car to be a cruiser and have a mean growl to it.

Any ideas about what I am looking at in regards to cost? I would obviously love show quality, but financially I am not ready to take that step. I would like the basics to be done (engine work, rust work, fresh paint, exhaust).

Thanks for reading guys,
Adam

I think the car had a 350 engine as standard. I had a 70 and it sure liked gas. I wouldn't spend a great deal on it because I don't it will ever be valuable regardless of how nice it is. The kind of driving she did with the low miles over that many years is not good for the car. Most cars that has sat that much develop a lot of problems due to rotting rubber, rust and general deterioration.
