Default First project on "new" 2002, A/C Blower

I'm making the transition from Blue Oval to a Bowtie. One son got my Bronco and I got a Suburban Z71 from another son. I'm impressed with this site. Here is my first post.

A/C blower was making a lot of noise. Several youtube videos walked me right through it. 7mm and 5.5mm sockets are correct. Good luck on finding a 5.5...7/32 works great.

Found cabin filter door swung open with the plastic that holds the screw broken away. JB Weld time.

Tested blower and it still had a loud roar. Found a 2" x 2 1/2" piece of tape in the blower like the stiff black paper stuff found on autos. Guess it finally migrated after many years. Everything is normal now.

Next project, radio volume **** is missing.

A/C BLOWER??!?? Who cares about the A/C in JANUARY??!??

MY issue is the HEATER blower! In this cold weather is is making an aweful racket when I start it...Seems to sound better once we are up to a nice warm 20 degrees or so! Seems like changing this blower is not too bad of a job, though, no??

Where did you get the replacement? Is there a good on-line parts dealer for our trucks? I like RockAuto for my Chrystler/Mopar replacement stuff, but they don't seem to have much for Chevy aftermarkets...

The bushings in the motor are probably worn out or dry. It may be possible to oil them by drilling a hole in the housing next to the bushings and injecting some oil.

gmpartsdirect is a good source.

You are correct. This winter I actually use heat more than A/C for a change.
My finger hurt pulling down on the motor tab while twisting the motor so I hooked something over the tab, pulled it down and twisted the motor counterclockwise and it came right out.
For my 2002 there was one challenging screw...seems like that happens frequently. The blower shield has two screws and replacing the back one took awhile.

Thanks for the comment...and for letting me hi-jack your thread. My '02 GMC Yukon will probably have the same screw to mess with.

I hate working on cars myself, but its even worse to pay someone 100 bucks an hour!!
