Which water pump?
I have a '64 Impala with 454/THM475/9inch:3:25/1 posi. The engine has been completely rebuilt: pistons,rings,cam,bearings.781 heads, etc. I have a new stock water pump. This past summer for some reason it began to run hot, which it didn't do when rebuilt. I have read a bunch on mechanical vs. electric pumps. and how to get the cooling to work right with a new aluminum radiator. My question is should i go with a high flow 60 gpm electric or choose a mechanical pump? Thanks cribboy52

Both are new, radiator is aluminum 4 core.
Yes electric fans, wired to run all the time.
I don't think the pump is the actual problem.
As long as weather is cool outside temp stays down
It's when the ambient temps are up is when the engine wants to warm up past the 180 mark and stay there.
I did more research this afternoon.
I think a high volume mechanical pump is what i need.
Mostly because the electric ones don't seem to have all the bolt holes i hafta have.
Thank you for the feedback.
Have a lovely evening
